New Product Announcement: MP15DC Locomotives

The 1500hp MP15DC was designed by EMD as a replacement model for the successful SW1500 switcher. The longer frame of the MP15DC allowed for increased fuel capacity and the use of Blomberg road trucks; increased sand capacity was also offered as an option. The first MP15DCs were built for Missouri Pacific in February 1974 and a total of 351 units were produced through the end of production in January 1983. The MP15DC is a versatile locomotive that is employed by both large and small railroads across North America in road freight and yard switching duties. It was also purchased by several non-railroad corporations for use in plant switching service. Atlas’ model includes the three different styles of long hood that were common to the MP15DC throughout production: standard hood, hood with square air filter box and hood with angled air filter box (the air filter box is located in the area immediately ahead of the cab). In addition, various styles of hood and cab-end sand boxes are being offered.

New Product Announcement: GP15-1 Locomotives

Built between 1976 and 1982, the EMD GP15-1 4-axle diesel locomotive was powered by a 12-cylinder EMD 645E engine that generated 1,500hp. It was commonly used as a light road switcher or a yard switcher.  A total of 310 units were built for American railroads.

New Product Announcement: VO-1000 Locomotives

Built by Baldwin in the 1940's, the VO-1000 diesel locomotives could be found in both yard and mainline service across the country. Atlas' version is a true replica of the handsome engine.

New Product Announcement: SD-7 and SD-9 Locomotives

The Atlas N-Scale SD-7 Locomotive is based on the prototype manufactured by EMD from February 1952 to November 1953. Utilizing a 1,500 hp engine and a longer underframe than the GP-7, the SD-7 was the first locomotive to use EMD's Flexicoil truck. Built by EMD between 1954 and 1959, the SD-9 6-axle road switchers produced 1,750 HP and were used primarily for freight service throughout the US, both on main and secondary lines. Many SD-9 locomotives are still in service today, serving as road switchers for shortline & industrial railroads, and as yard switchers for major "Class 1" lines.
